Update:Sandia Crest– The New Mexico Department of Transportation would like to inform the traveling
public of a closure on NM 536 (Sandia Crest Road) from mile marker 2 to mile marker 13. This closure
includes NM 165 near Placitas at mile marker 9. New Mexico State Police have closed this road due to
severe winter weather conditions. Travel on this roadway is prohibited by law enforcement at this time.

According to nmroads.com, much of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho roads are difficult to drive on.

Tijeres and southeast Albuquerque are severely difficult.

Nmroads says, “Difficult Driving Conditions – Roads are wet with some icy spots. Black ice may exist when temperatures drop. Blowing snow is resulting in low visibility.
Reduce speed and proceed with caution. Please stay 50 feet behind snow plows. Updates will be made as conditions change.”

Here are the main roads and highways to watch out for:

• 1-25 and I-40 intersection: Difficult driving

• East I-40: Severe conditions

• North, South I-25: Difficult driving

• West I-40: Difficult driving

• Coors to NM Hwy 528: Difficult driving

• Northern, Southern, Unser blvds.: Difficult driving.

• Highway 550: Difficult driving

Residential roads could be more hazardous as they are less likely to be plowed and traffic isn’t as intense.
