With two games left in the Indoor Football League’s regular season, the Duke City Gladiators can clinch a postseason berth with a win in San Diego Saturday evening.

The odds for that postseason appearance look good: The Gladiators (6-8, 5-5 in the Western Conference) face the Strike Force (3-11, 2-10), a team they beat 54-49 at the Rio Rancho Events Center on May 28. That game came down to a recovered onside kick by Duke City, which scored a touchdown with 1:06 left in the fourth quarter, only to see the Strike Force score 45 seconds later, setting the stage for a win by the Strike Force – had it managed to recover that kick.

If the Gladiators fail to win Saturday, they also can secure a playoff berth if Las Vegas (6-9, 5-6) – a half-game behind Duke City in the standings – loses to first-place Arizona (12-3, 10-2).

The Gladiators, on a three-game skid, were idle last weekend.

They close out the regular season on July 16 in a 6 p.m. kickoff vs. the Northern Arizona Wranglers – a team that beat the Gladiators 49-41 in Prescott Valley on June 25.

The IFL’s championship game will be played Aug. 13 at The Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev.
