There’s a lot going on at Rio Rancho Fire & Rescue.

Battalion Chief Ryan Floersheim said the department has received new EMS equipment through a state grant “that will allow our engine companies to better care for the most seriously injured of our medical patients.”

Coming Nov. 21, Fire & Rescue will begin teaching its own EMT Basic class, he said.

Since removing that license from the minimum requirements to apply for our department a couple years ago we have to provide that education to the cadets who need it. Until now that meant shipping them to another department nearby. By doing it in house we will be saving money and having direct oversight on our future Firefighters. Its a big undertaking that we’re hoping to make sustainable in the years to come.

On Nov. 17, the department’s Academy #17 will graduate.
