Temperatures in Rio Rancho are expected to hit the upper 80s Saturday and Sunday.

While that is good news for those who want to take a dip into the swimming pool, it means the possibility of fires is high.

Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s with wind gusts as high as 35 mph and low humidity. As a result, the National Weather Service of Albuquerque will issue a red flag warning for Rio Rancho and Sandoval County from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

On Sunday, wind gusts could reach 40 mph with humidity in the single digits and highs remaining in the upper 80s.  The NWS will issue a fire watch for the area from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

A fire weather watch is issued up to 72 hours before the above conditions are expected to occur. A red flag warning is issued when the conditions above are expected to occur or are occurring within the next 24 hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Warm temps are expected to continue into next week with highs expected to reach 90 degrees from Monday to Wednesday.
