Yesterday RRFR responded to a large trash fire at the city landfill. The crews worked with the landfill crew and several units from the Sandoval County Fire Department to extinguish the fire within 2 hours. Several bulldozers were also used to fight the fire.
There were no reported injuries or severe damage. The fire was about 100 x 100 feet. The landfill staff were helpful with their bulldozers and exposed some of the patches of fire underneath the piles of trash.
There is no indication of how it started though.
“It is hard to pinpoint because of the numerous items found in the trash. And because we were sifting with the bulldozers we couldn’t find the source,” Batallion Cheif Ryan Floersheim said.
The priority is always to put out a fire before it gets too big.
