Rio Rancho High School Assistant Principal Ryan Kettler will succeed retiring Principal Sherri Carver, the outgoing educator announced May 1, confirming what most of her staff hoped would happen.

Kettler, she told her staff, has been in education for 19 years. He began his educational career in Plainview, Texas, as a teacher and coach prior to moving to Albuquerque Public Schools in 2002.

During his time with APS, he was a teacher, coach, athletic director, middle school assistant principal and high school assistant principal.

Kettler joined the RRHS staff in 2014; applied, along with Carver, to succeed former RRHS Principal Richard Von Ancken in 2016; and graduated with distinction from the University of New Mexico in May 2018 with a doctorate in sports administration.

His wife, Jessica Kettler, is the principal at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary. They have two children attending schools in the district: Madyson and Bryson.

“I have worked with Ryan for four years now and I know he is ready,” Carver added. “He will do an outstanding job leading RRHS.”

Returning to the high school, one of her numerous stops during her time as a local educator, Pat Di Vasto will be the assistant principal of the Fine Arts Academy, overseeing seniors.

“It’s where I started when I got there in 2003,” said Di Vasto, most recently the principal at Sandia Vista Elementary, following a stint as principal at Stapleton Elementary.

When RRPS began in 1994, she had been a math teacher at Lincoln Middle School.

“I am leaving behind some truly amazing families and staff at SVE, but we will be forever friends,” Di Vasto posted on Facebook.

Her successor will be the school’s assistant principal, Miranda Jeantete.
