The annual Eggs’ N Beggin’ Dog Parade and Costume Contest is fast approaching.

It will happen from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 2 at the Cabezon Recreation Center, 2307 Cabezon Blvd. NE.

The entry fee is $5 (cash) per pet. Registration and festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. The Easter egg hunt begins at noon, and the parade starts at 1 p.m.

People are encouraged to dress their pets up in costumes and have them participate in the parade, egg hunt and costume contest. People will also have a chance to get their pet’s picture taken with the Easter bunny.

Proof of canine vaccinations must be provided as part of the event registration process, and dogs must be on a leash with a collar. Animal participants are subject to the approval of City of Rio Rancho employees, who will assess their appropriateness, temperament and health.

The city’s Animal Resource Center will accept donations. Items it is looking for include: dry food, wet food, cat litter, crates, beds, gently used blankets and toys.

The dog parade and costume contest are put together by the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, which includes the Animal Resource Center, and Pet Food Gone Wild.
