Eagle Ridge Middle School sent out an alert to parents Thursday afternoon about a report of a student having a “hit list” and the intention to bring a gun to school Friday, Nov. 3.

The information was brought to the Rio Rancho Police Department and Rio Rancho Public School’s Safety and Security Team, who were able to identify the student. The school said any student involved in such threats will face “severe” consequences.

The rest of the statement reads as follows:

” Rest assured that we are actively addressing this incident, and appropriate measures will be taken.

“We understand that incidents of this nature can increase everyone’s anxiety. We want you to know that we are committed to prioritizing safety for our students, parents, and staff. We work very hard to maintain a safe school environment, and we appreciate those who reported the threat.

“Please know that we will take immediate action against any student involved in threats of this nature and the consequences will be severe. Threats like these not only undermine the sense of safety for our students and staff but also disrupt the educational process.

“Once again, we want to emphasize that student safety remains the foremost priority for the administration, teachers and staff at Eagle Ridge Middle School. We eagerly look forward to welcoming our students to school tomorrow, and we will continue to work tirelessly to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their education and well-being.”
