Dutch Bros Coffee makes its way to Rio Rancho with two locations.
Come this fall, Petroglyph Medical Plaza at Unser Boulevard and Rincon Road will see Dutch Bros’ first New Mexico-based shop, according to Greg Sofio of Anvil Real Estate and Development.
The second Rio Rancho location is still in the planning stages but will also open in the fall, said Dutch Bros Coffee spokeswoman Rilynn Davis.
Dutch Bros Coffee will employ about 40 people at each location, Davis said.
“We are super excited to enter New Mexico in Rio Rancho; it is a great family-oriented community,” she said.
The Oregon-based company maintains 380 locations and 12,000 employees in seven states, all with the mission to “spread the Dutch Luv,” states its website.
“Dutch Bros partners with the communities it serves in many different capacities. Each location is locally operated, and as each community is unique, so are the ways we partner,” Davis said.
Dutch Bros Coffee is the largest privately held drive-thru coffee company in the U.S., according to its website. The company was founded in 1992 out of a barn.
“One of the most rewarding things in this change of occupation was going from smelling cow manure to smelling coffee,” said co-founder Dane Boersma on the Dutch Bros website. “You’d open the bag, and it was like heaven.”
