The Rio Rancho Governing Body has extended the city health-care emergency declaration through June 30.

The declaration does not affect private organizations, only city operations. Only the governor can issue or revoke lock-downs or stay-at-home orders, and the city has no authority to supersede those orders.

The declaration makes the city eligible to apply for federal and state reimbursements of COVID-19 related expenses, should they become available, said Mayor Gregg Hull. He said the city budget is balanced without those reimbursements, but it’s preferable to bring state and federal tax money back to the community if possible.
