This column is two years in the making, and I am happy I finally get to share this one with you all.

Back in 2021, at a work event, I tried Game Changer Grill for the first time, and it really was a game changer for me.

I ate the Enchantment Sopapilla Burger, and ever since then I have long waited for the day that I would spot the Game Changer Grill food truck again. I tried to catch them a couple times, but the odds were not in my favor. However, thanks to my school’s open house event at Joe Harris Elementary, the stars finally aligned!

Game Changer Grill is based out of Bosque Farms and is a two-person team consisting of owner Chris Montano and his fiancée Lorraine Garcia.

“We travel across the whole state of New Mexico to feed everyone,” Montano said. “BNSF, county fairs, school events, horse shows, rodeos, birthdays, pool parties: You name it we do it!”

I was stoked to see Game Changers, and I ordered the very thing that I have been dreaming about for two years: The Enchantment Sopapilla Burger.

The Enchantment Sopapilla Burger is an 8-ounce freshly pressed patty cut in half and placed in some fry bread. The burger comes with green chile, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, a pickle spear and some fries on the side.

“We season it with our ‘special seasoning’ that we mix together ourselves and use with all our food that is prepared,” Montano said.

A burger topped with green chile inside some fried bread? It doesn’t get better than that.

I waited in steep anticipation for my food. To kill some time, I stopped by Sourpuss Lemonade to try some of their unique, homemade lemonade.

I was going to order the regular lemonade, but one of my students encouraged me to try the “Ocean Water,” which was the teacher’s night special.

The Ocean Water had homemade lemonade, blue raspberry flavoring, coconut flavoring and candy gummy sharks. Yes, it is amazing. It was also cold and refreshing. It had that great tart taste from the lemonade and fantastic sweetness from the blue raspberry. Top-tier lemonade. So, quick shout out to Sourpuss Lemonade!

My Enchantment Sopapilla Burger was ready, and it was time to get to work…

The sopapilla was golden brown, fluffy, crispy and offered more of that sweet taste that you do not get with regular buns. The beef was juicy, full of flavor and  a grilled masterpiece. The green chile was fresh and hot. Not super hot, but definitely not mild.

I enjoyed every bite, because every bite was paradise.

My only hope is that I won’t have to wait two years until I eat another Enchantment Sopapilla Burger from Game Changer Grill.

“I just love to cook for people and to see their happy faces as they enjoy their food, and that’s what brings happiness to me,” Montano said.
