As part of the state’s recent efforts to improve COVID-19 testing avenues, Sandoval County is helping facilitate two COVID home test kit distribution events for residents later this week.

According to the county’s Facebook page, the first drive-thru distribution will take place Thursday from 2-4 p.m. at the Bernalillo Recreation Center. The second drive-thru event will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Placitas Fire Station.

People looking to secure a home test kit at one of the two sites are advised to not arrive before the start times.

The county’s partnering with the Town of Bernalillo to put on the first event, while Sandoval County Fire and Rescue’s South District — which covers Placitas, Algodones and Santa Ana Pueblo — will oversee the second event.

Between Jan. 25 and Feb. 7, Sandoval County had a 23-percent positivity rate for COVID-19 tests, according to data on the New Mexico Department of Health’s website. Nearly 15,000 Sandoval County residents took COVID tests during that time frame, per NMDOH data.
