The Corrales Growers’ Market had growth and a successful season in 2022, according to the Corrales mayor’s newsletter.

In his weekly “Mayor’s Message” for Dec. 23, Mayor Jim Fahey shared statistics from Bonnie Gonzales of the growers’ market.

“The village should be proud of our farming entrepreneurs who have persisted and succeeded in this time of drought,” Fahey wrote. “We look forward to many more years of success, even as food insecurity worldwide is a problem. Please continue to support our local farmers and growers!”

According to Gonzales, more than 119,500 shoppers visited the market in 2022, an increase because of the addition of winter markets and adding Wednesday operations to the long-standing Sunday hours. Corrales Growers’ Market opened 52 times in 2022, with 20 seasonal markets, 16 Wednesday markets and seven winter markets, Gonzales shared in her report.

Agricultural sales — those involving fresh produce, meat, eggs, cheese, nuts and honey — brought in almost $956,000. Non-agricultural sales, consisting of processed food, baked goods and crafts, generated nearly $107,000, according to Gonzales.

That’s a total of more than $1.06 million.

More vendors sold processed food in 2022, taking advantage of training in food safety, processing and adding value to expand their offerings, Gonzales wrote. More vendors offered online with pickup at the market, which increased sales and drew in more customers, she said.

New vendors also joined the market in 2022 to sell local wool, mushrooms, dehydrated produce, dried herbs, condiments, sauces, soup, grains and more. Fresh meat offerings expanded to include fresh pork, goat and lamb.

The Corrales Growers’ Market operates from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month, plus occasional holiday and Wednesday hours, at 500 Jones Road, according to its website. The next market is Jan. 8.
