Two-time defending Class 6A football champion Cleveland High hit the new turf early Monday morning, as the first official day of practice began.
The coaches’ meeting started at 5:15, and the players began their drills shortly after 6.
The Storm and their new head coach, Robert Garza, take a 22-game winning streak into their 2022 season opener Friday, Aug. 19, when Centennial visit Thunderbolt Stadium in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
On the other side of Northern Boulevard, the Rams — twice state runners-up — began their first practice at 5:30 a.m., also under a new head coach, Nate Pino.
The Rams’ season opener is also Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. at home, when La Cueva visits.
