The Christmas de Los Caballos Parade is returning to Corrales this month.

Horses and mules decked out in their Christmas finery will be once again marching down Corrales Road beginning at 1 p.m. Nov. 19. Ribbons and bows, bells, lights, sparkles and glitter are all part of this event, which marks the kickoff of the Corrales Fire Department’s annual Christmas toy and food drive.

“The parade went on hold because of COVID and other factors, but we are ready to go again with this family favorite event,” said Patty Carroll, Corrales Equestrian Advisory Commission co-chair.

The parade starts at Wagner’s Farm Stand, 5000 Corrales Road, and ends at TopForm Arena, 500 Jones Road, where Santa and Mrs. Claus will meet and greet kids.

Equestrians are invited to dress up their animals and meet at Wagner’s starting at 12:30 p.m. Entry fee is a new unwrapped toy. Cash donations from entrants and spectators are also welcomed. There will also be a costume contest for the best-dressed equestrians with prizes donated by the Corrales Village Mercantile.

“This is New Mexico’s only all-equestrian parade and it is a special part of our community, the Horse Capital of NM,” Carroll said.

The event is sponsored by the CEAC, Corrales Horse and Mule People, the Corrales Fire Department and is funded in part by with proceeds from the Corrales Bed and Breakfast Lodgers Tax Board.
