Law enforcement agencies are searching for a prisoner transport van in western New Mexico that is believed to have been taken over by the inmates.

Jayme Fuller, a spokeswoman with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, said Monday afternoon that the agency was assisting in the search for a prisoner transport van along Interstate 40. She said the incident didn’t begin in Bernalillo County.

“There’s an incident that’s going on but it’s way out west past Laguna (Pueblo),” Fuller said. “We’re searching for a possible transport van that was taken by prisoners.”

Neither New Mexico State Police nor state Corrections Department officials could be reached for comment.
