Shoppers at Big Lots can donate money at checkout from Feb. 1 through Feb. 20 to help support the store’s Life Is Why campaign benefiting the American Heart Association, according to a press release.

The release said that money will go toward research to help heart and stroke patients, train for than 2 1/2 million high school students in CPR every year and also support local entrepreneurs and organizations working to improve health outcomes in under-resourced communities.

“The American Heart Association believes every individual deserves the opportunity to live a long, healthy and happy life, but unfortunately heart disease and stroke are robbing too many of us of this chance,” Sherri Wells, executive director of the American Heart Association-New Mexico, said in the release. “Together, with Big Lots and our Life is Why supporters, we are working to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to spend their time healthy and more joyfully with family and friends.”

February is American Heart Month.
