It is that time of year again when people will send in their tax returns.
The season starts on Monday, Jan. 23, and will end in April.
While methods for filing have changed over the years, some have stuck around.
The IRS recommds filing taxes online now and not by mail. According to them, while it’s not more difficult to file by mail than online, mailing can cause issues if the return is lost.
NerdWallet says, “There are three main ways to file taxes: fill out IRS Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR by hand and mail it (not recommended), file taxes online using tax software, or hire a human tax preparer to do the work of tax filing.”
So far, TaxAct is the most recommended application to file taxes online and is followed by Turbo Tax.
The IRS also offers the free file program. However, people had to have earned less than $73,000 in 2022 to utilize it.
