Today I drove an electric car for the first time.
Chalmers Ford in Rio Rancho happened to have a Mustang Mach-E that I could take out for a test drive. It was a different experience because I usually drive gas-powered vehicles.
The first thing that stuck out to me was the car’s look.
It kind-of resembled more of a space ship than a car, but that was super cool. The doors were strange to me as well, because they didn’t have handles. There was a button you push, and the door sort-of pops out. It was nice though, because I didn’t feel stressed just opening a door.
As I sat in the driver’s seat, I felt more comfortable than I have ever felt in a car. The seats were perfectly formed and I had zero back pain. Getting into the car was easy. It wasn’t too low or too high from the ground.
Inside the car everything looked futuristic and gave me spaceship vibes. There are two screens: One shows speed and battery percentage, the other controls everything from climate to GPS.
While it felt cool to be in a car from the future, I couldn’t help but be distracted by the large screens which are completely different from a radio and dial system that I have. As most cars have now, keyless entry and start-up was also part of the package. The “shifter” was more of a circular dial which threw me off because I reached for the knob that wasn’t there.
Once the car had started, which I barely noticed because the car is so quiet, I felt even more relaxed with the A/C that was immediately cool. I drove it around Cottonwood Mall and it was so smooth, I could barely feel the potholes and cracks in the road, which in Rio Rancho is saying a lot. The brakes were also smooth and I wasn’t launched from my seat every time I braked.
All in all I was relaxed and felt like a woman of the future. I would definitely buy one if I had $51k.
