A member of the Pueblo of Santo Domingo has pled guilty to assault on a federal officer.

According to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Henryetta John, 30, was stopped by a federal officer from the Bureau of Indian Affairs Oct. 20, 2021, for suspicion of DWI. When the officer tried to place John under arrest, she slipped the handcuffs and physically assaulted the officer, causing them to roll down a hill side and resulting in injuries to the officer.

The case was investigated by the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office.

John faces up to 20 years in prison at sentencing and will remain in custody until she can be released for substance abuse treatment.
